Eric Nourrie

Eric Nourrie has been one of the crew on Magic since 1999. He started commercial deep sea trolling and bottom fishing in Hawaii at the age of 15 on a neighbors 26' boat named the Betty Y. At the age of 18 he then landed a job on a 38' Bertram charter boat in Kewalo Basin and worked on that boat for a little over a year. When that boat was sold he moved to another 38' Bertram from 1996-1999 where he worked as crew and part time Captain and learned some more about big game fishing in Hawaii. Eric obtained his U.S. Coast Guard certified 100 ton Masters license in 1997, showing that his passion for fishing is more than just a job.

After seeing Eric perform his job beautifully, how well he worked with the customers, his attention to detail, his willingness to learn and his passion for fishing, Captain Russell Tanaka offered Eric a job on Magic as crew in 1999 and he's been here since then. Some of Eric's best trips include 8 Yellowfin tuna (Ahi) in one day over 100 lbs (he's done that 4 times), 58 Dolphin (Mahi-mahi) in one day on November 22, 2004, he's had 3 blue marlin in one day numerous times, and 5 striped marlin in one day. Eric's largest fish so far is 751 lbs caught in July 2004 and he also has a 631lb and a 600 lb blue marlin caught on Magic and numerous over 500 lbs.

Not many crew can handle the rigors of fishing on Magic, but Eric has performed his job incredibly well. Having a talk with Eric shows how serious he is about his job, but he also actually remembers vast pieces of information about repeat customers which are common on Magic and Eric is part of the reason for their continued patronage.
